Synopsis

Blaire Jace is a children's party entertainer determined to chase her dreams in stand-up comedy, but she's held back by her crippling stage fright and ever-increasing anxiety. After a local comic with small town fame dares her to wear her getup on stage, a new talent manager sees her act and wants to take her on as their first client. Blaire's career starts to take off while her anxiety skyrockets and we see the world through her stressed-out imagination. Comic Relief is a middle-of-the-road story about a woman in her mid 30s chasing her dreams and finding her way to the beginning.

KL Koura Linda AH Alex Hawthorne Writers

KOURA: Koura Linda is the Founder and President of Space Dream Productions, an independent film and music production company with a focus on creating true to the world of independent art: telling stories that need to be told, and creating music that needs to be heard. Since Sept 2016, over 60 projects have moved (or are moving) through her company. 21 completed projects have received over 50 film festival acceptances internationally, received just under 70 award nominations and 24 awards, including "Best Director" (awarded to both Koura Linda and her partner and husband, Spaceship, for 3 different films), "Best Animation," "Best Drama: Short" "Best Short", and "Best Picture." She started writing out character development and script ideas and shot lists in her composition notebooks as a kid, before she even knew what a shot list actually was. Notorious for her elaborate crepe-paper birthday party decorations and painting murals on the walls of her bedroom, she was working as an art teacher's assistant as soon as she could legally hold a job. Fast forward about a decade, after stumbling in with Art Dept crew one summer, she quickly fell in love with production design and spent the next 10 years working on set and event design, eventually getting into full production design. Knowing that production design entails more than just a fancy set, Koura studied acting and writing and camera and lighting, working as a day-player where she could, and even going to a 3-day rigging intensive to become a certified set rigger and later working with electric, rigging lights on concert stages across LA. When she wasn't 50 feet in the air on a truss rig she'd helped build, she was studying design and make-up and wardrobe, eventually moving up to Art Director and then Production Designer for large private events, then music videos and TV shows and short films. With such a strong background, it was a small leap to jump over to Producing and Directing, launching releasing Space Dream Productions' first film in August 2016. In August 2019, Koura was awarded The Mico Award for Innovation, Courage, Excellence in Film in Las Vegas, for her career thus far as an Independent Filmmaker. Koura is currently in post production on her first feature film, the upcoming optimistic drama, "Catching The Light" produced during COVID in September 2020. ALEX: Alex Hawthorne is a writer born in Philadelphia, PA. The area he was growing up in was a very rundown area. His friends and him would play on streets littered with broken beer bottles and crack viles, in a neighborhood surrounded by abandoned buildings. When he was 8, his parents moved their family to New Jersey because they didn't want their kids growing up in such a dangerous environment. It was a bit of a culture shock moving to New Jersey, but he recognizes that he wouldn't have the same values if they'd stayed in Philadelphia. Had they stayed, he might have ended up working as a drug dealer or something worse. But instead, thanks to his parents and his teachers, he learned the value of hard work and a good education. Growing up both of his parents worked, so when he wasn't out playing with friends, he was often watching TV and movies. In college, he studied Film and communication studies. After graduating, he struggled to find work options in his area of New Jersey, so he decided to stop looking for jobs and start writing and shooting his own films. He has since moved between writing, producing, filming and directing multiple short films and videos. While one of his shorts was extended in production to a feature length film with extra footage shot to extend the edit, "Comic Relief" is his first feature script being developed into a feature.
