AFIN membership
AFIN membership terms
1. Who we are
AFIN International Film Festival ("AFIN", "we", "us") is run by Koevari Pty Ltd, ABN 42 617 037 715, in Queensland, Australia. Memberships are sold and gifted by Koevari Pty Ltd. These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, and nothing in them takes away any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
2. What a membership is
A membership is a personal account with AFIN that carries the benefits of its tier. It cannot be transferred. It is not a share in the company, a vote, or a say in any festival decision, and it gives no advantage in any AFIN competition: it does not affect how any film or screenplay is judged, programmed or awarded.
Paid membership is for people aged 18 and over, and you confirm you are 18 or over when you pay. Where AFIN has recognised a younger filmmaker, screenwriter or performer, their gifted membership is looked after by a parent or guardian until they turn 18.
3. Tiers and prices
All prices are in Australian dollars. Koevari Pty Ltd is not registered for GST, so no GST is included or charged.
- Attendee: free, ongoing.
- Creator: $49 first year (founding), then $69 a year.
- Industry: $99 first year (founding), then $129 a year.
- Founding Patron: $250 once, never expires; not sold after the founding window or after the first 50.
The benefits of each tier are the ones listed on afinfestival.com/membership on the day you join. A benefit marked "Coming" is covered by section 7.
4. Gifted memberships for recognised filmmakers and screenwriters
AFIN gives a membership, at no cost, to the people its results recognise: a nominee holds Creator membership, and a winner holds Industry membership.
A gifted membership never expires and never depends on anything you buy. You pay nothing for it, ever. It is yours when you claim your AFIN account, and it stays yours if you never claim it. "Never expires" means it has no renewal date and no end date for as long as the membership programme runs; section 10 says what happens if the programme itself ever changes. The consumer guarantees apply to a gifted membership's services as they do to a paid one.
A gifted membership is tied to the result that earned it. If a result is corrected or withdrawn for cause (for example a rules breach found later), the gift may be withdrawn with it, and we will tell you in writing.
5. Founding prices and the Founding Patron limit
The founding prices are for the founding cohort: everyone who registered interest on afinfestival.com/membership before paid memberships opened, and anyone who joins within 30 days after they open. After that, the standard prices apply.
A founding price covers the first year of a yearly membership. Renewal is at the standard price at the time, and we tell you that price before you are charged.
Founding Patron is sold only during the founding window and only to the first 50 people. If a payment arrives after the 50th, it is refunded in full.
6. Changing your tier
- Moving up. You pay the difference between the two yearly prices, only for the part of your year that is left. Your renewal date stays the same, and you renew at the new tier's price.
- Moving up to Founding Patron. You pay $250, less the unused part of your current paid year, and your yearly membership stops renewing. If your membership is gifted, you pay $250.
- Moving down. The change happens at your next renewal. You keep your current tier until then, and nothing is refunded.
- Recognised while you are paying. If the festival recognises you and your gift covers the tier you pay for, or a higher one, that tier is yours free from that day and your paid membership stops renewing; the year you already paid for runs out as normal. If you pay for a higher tier than your gift, you keep it and from your next renewal you pay only the difference between the two tiers' standard prices.
- A gifted member moving up. You pay only the difference between your gifted tier and the tier you choose, now and at each renewal.
Before you pay for any change, the page shows the exact amount and your next renewal date and price.
7. Benefits marked "Coming"
Some benefits on the membership page are marked "Coming". A Coming benefit is something we are building, not a promise of when or whether it arrives. If one cannot be delivered, we will say so plainly on the membership page and by email to members, rather than quietly drop it. The online showcase is one example, because it depends on rights and technology outside our control.
The price of a membership is for the benefits that are live when you buy it. A Coming benefit that goes live is added at no extra cost. A Coming benefit that is withdrawn does not by itself give a right to a refund, except as the refunds page provides.
8. Member discounts on submission fees and screening tickets
A member's discount on AFIN submission fees follows the member's work. It applies to any submission of a film or screenplay that credits the member, and can be used by whoever submits it, but not for work the member is not part of. It applies to every eligible submission in the season. Creator members receive 20% off and Industry members 30% off; the higher figure applies and the two never stack.
The discount is a code on your account, issued before entries open for the season, and entered on FilmFreeway at checkout. If a code is used on work that does not credit the member, the discount is refused at acceptance and the difference is invoiced.
Industry members also receive 20% off screening tickets from the 2027 screenings, by a code on the account entered at the ticketing checkout.
Each use of a member discount, a member ticket allocation or a member-only booking is recorded against the membership. The refunds page explains what a recorded use means for a refund.
9. Paying, renewing, cancelling and refunds
Payments are taken by Stripe for us. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own page and stay with Stripe; we never see or store them. How renewal, cancellation and refunds work is on our refunds and cancellation page, afinfestival.com/refunds, which is part of these terms.
10. Our promise, and what happens if things change
Gifted memberships and founding benefits are honoured for the life of the membership programme, and we intend that to be a very long life. If circumstances ever force a change, recognised filmmakers and screenwriters will always be offered the fairest equivalent we can honestly give.
We may change these terms. If a change reduces what a paid membership gets, we will email members at least 30 days before it takes effect, and a member who does not accept the change may cancel and receive a pro rata refund of the current year. A price rise applies only from your next renewal, never during a paid year, and the reminder before that renewal states the new price. When these terms change, we ask members to agree to the new version before they next post, edit or send a message.
11. Your page and your content
Members may edit their own page and projects on afinfestival.com. You keep the copyright in what you add, and you give AFIN a licence to show it on the site and in festival material while it is on your page. You must hold the rights to anything you upload, and you must not add anything unlawful, defamatory or misleading. We may remove content that breaks this, and we will tell you why.
Archive pages (films, screenplays, results and credits) are the festival's record of its own results. They are not created by a membership and are not removed by cancelling one. Corrections to the record go through the festival.
12. Conduct
Members agree to Conduct on AFIN (afinfestival.com/conduct). Members must not use the site to harass, spam or scrape. We may suspend or end a membership for a serious breach; we will say why, and you can appeal. Any unused part of a paid year is refunded pro rata, unless the breach caused loss to AFIN or to another member. A gifted membership may be suspended on the same basis.
13. Keep private details off AFIN
- Do not post or send private details on AFIN, yours or anyone else's: phone numbers, home or street addresses, bank, card or other financial details, health or medical information, passwords, or copies of identity documents such as a passport or driver licence. This covers your page, your projects, comments, posts and messages.
- AFIN checks some posts for these details and holds or refuses them. Please do not try to get around those checks, for example by spacing out digits, writing numbers as words, or putting the details in an image.
- If you choose to share your own contact details with another member in a private conversation, that is your choice. AFIN cannot take back what the other member has already seen.
- If you get around AFIN's checks to post private details, you are responsible for that choice and for any loss it causes to the person the details are about. We may remove the content straight away and hold your account's sending. For a serious or repeated breach we may end your membership under section 12.
- Nothing in this section reduces what AFIN must do: we still run the site with due care and skill, keep it reasonably secure, and act on reports promptly, and you keep every right you have under the Australian Consumer Law. This section does not make you responsible for anything AFIN does or fails to do.
14. Privacy
Our privacy page, afinfestival.com/privacy, says what we hold about you, where it is kept and how to see, change or delete it. We never sell your information.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms, or anything about your membership: afinfestival@gmail.com. A person reads every message and answers within a week.
16. The small print, kept small
These terms, the refunds and cancellation page, and the membership page's description of your tier are the whole agreement. They change only as section 10 describes. If there is a disagreement, we talk first; if that fails, Queensland law applies and the courts of Queensland decide. Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
