Biography

Catarina De Cèzanne (also known as Catarina César) is an award-winning Portuguese screenwriter, director, and filmmaker based in Europe and the UK. She grew up in a small fishing village in Portugal, where everyone knows each other and nothing ever happens, with no connections to the film industry. Catarina's known for directing the Sci-Fi short “After Link”, and her experience also ranges from production coordination, office management and film funding applications to production coordination and script supervision, her credits also include, inter alia, the galician TV series Serramoura (2017/2018), english TV show A Place In the Sun, Guldägget nominee commercials “Peas of Heaven “the field, the documentary series “Rescuers: Mystery of Goodness”, and several short-films such as “A Tree Fell Today” and BAFTA selected "Martha".

After completing her Master's degree in Film and TV Production in 2016, she built a diverse career in the film and television industry, working across the UK, USA, Portugal, and Australia.

She has also lived and worked in three different countries, which unveiled feelings only known to other immigrants, translating them into screenplays, poetry, and books. Her projects span multiple genres, from teen to older audiences, indie drama and experimental auteur cinema, to female-driven horror, cosmic horror, dark historical, folklore-fantasy, dystopian worlds, and retro sci-fi. Through these genres, she explores feelings of connection and disconnection, isolation, longing, heartbreak, obsession, existential drift, and the search for meaning and spiritual work.

Beyond her film career, she has participated in several volunteering programmes, helping war refugees in local communities and tackling mental health issues through the arts.

She is currently living in the UK, creating the first edition of the Gateshead International Film Festival.
