The period evocation is exact, an old-fashioned film in the best sense, with the battered car and the vast desert locations giving the adventure real scale. Assured direction keeps the drama flowing and gives its likeable, funny travellers room to build a genuine companionship across the Sahara. It struck the panel as the kind of picture that feels missing from screens today.
