From the Judges, on GANIBARRA (2026)
From the Judges, on GANIBARRA
Moving and quietly urgent, this short asks viewers to listen, opening and closing on the howl of the dingo carried from a distance to the fore. It draws a compelling parallel between the displacement of the dingo and of First Nations people, centring community voices with warmth and letting children's affection lift the story. The camerawork is vibrant and precise, with compositions that reach at times into shadow and hush for real emotional weight.

Production design carries a great deal of the storytelling here, from the forest sequences lit by practicals to the crisp lines of the boardroom, and the costume work builds a world that feels genuinely considered. Vibrant cinematography and a wide range of camera angles bring real imagination to a blend of fantasy and modern corporate life. The lead performance drew warm praise for the nuance it brought to a character moving through burnout and transformation.
