Biography

Matthew C. Vella is an international award-winning filmmaker & entertainer from Blacktown, Western Sydney. Matt’s debut film Bleeding Backs (2016) won awards both internationally and at home, with 5 wins & 14 official selections, screening in the US, Canada, U.K, New Zealand and all over Australia. His latest project, She's Not Your Type (2018) will be released later this year. He’s not just good looks either! Matt has completed a Masters of Media Arts and Production from the University of Technology, Sydney. When he's not writing & directing films, Matt is generally talking about them on the Midnight Double Feature podcast, donating his time & talent as one of the core organisers for charity street music festival Busk for a Cure, as well as hosting the Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout - a popular networking group he co-founded with live events held quarterly. Born from Maltese immigrant parents, Matt is a self-proclaimed pop culture nerd who has dedicated his life to entertaining others. Before dipping his toes into film, he spent his late teens traveling the country with his band Wings of Icarus. Matt then spent four years writing about video games & movies at Capsule Computers as well as community managing & podcasting.
