From the Judges, on Fading Forward (2026)
From the Judges, on Fading Forward
A reflection on how we capture and keep our memories, this short moves with real confidence from its opening sequence onward. The panel admired a documentary that ranges across retro and modern shooting techniques, holding a beautifully shot look throughout, and a tight, punchy structure that keeps the interviewees engaging and the whole piece perfectly paced. Reflective and well-built, it raises genuine questions about how we document a life, and it leaves you wanting to go and make something.
From the Judges, on The Witchdoctor and the Windmill (2026)
From the Judges, on The Witchdoctor and the Windmill
Animation sequences, archival footage and a chorus of interviewees give this feature the texture of a life told properly, and the score carries it. The writing draws one artist's story outward into Aboriginal history, art history, culture and colonisation without losing sight of the woman at its centre. Panel members found it moving, educational and genuinely original, a portrait of a remarkable life that deserves to be far better known.
