Director's Statement

Muhan Yao, filmmaker portrait provided to AFIN.

As a motion designer, I create artworks that transport viewers to a whimsical world full of colorful and nostalgic flair. I use smooth and varied movements and rhythm to imbue my designs with dynamic energy. Whether it's through playful animated characters or intricate geometric designs, I captivate my audience with vibrant visuals that dance across the screen. Above all, I like to discuss human relationships, observe animals and plants, and personify lifeless objects in my work. My work is strongly influenced by dramatic films and classical, hip hop and jazz music. I also infuse my work with a sense of humor that encourages viewers to engage with the stories I'm telling. With both witty visual gags and sensibility, I bring the viewers a rich visual experience with unexpected twists and turns. I create pieces that spark joy and resonate with the people that experience them. Through my unique style, I push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of motion design and bring a little bit of magic to every project I undertake.
