Synopsis
The lead single on alt-pop artist GLVES debut EP, 'TIME' invites you into a space between memory and imagination, movement and stillness. The 'TIME' music video reflects GLVES journey of self-discovery and belonging - an exploration of what it means to truly connect with herself. Filmed in Magandjin on Turrbal and Yuggera Country, set across shifting, liminal spaces, the video features GLVES moving through water, fabric and soft glowing light, ultimately joined by a sisterhood of dancers. Inspired by the concept of the 'third space', it's about creating a timeless, transformative place where she can uncover and embrace the parts of herself she's often overlooked. It's a vulnerable and hopeful reflection of the ups and downs of GLVES learning to love herself.
Director's Statement
I was beyond thrilled when GLVES (aka Michelle Levings) reached out and asked to collaborate on a music video for 'Time', the lead single on her debut EP. GLVES is a proud Kaurareg and Fijian woman, and an artist I have long admired. Joining forces with other First Nations women to create together is always a dream. Along with GLVES, we collaborated with choreographer and proud Ewamian, Cobble Cobble, Birri and South Sea Islander woman Allirah Fisher, who also appears in the video alongside her sister and fellow dancer Madison Fisher. 'Time' is a song that reflects GLVES' journey of self-discovery and belonging - a personal exploration of what it means to truly connect with herself. Inspired by the concept of the 'third space', it's about creating a timeless, transformative place where she can uncover and embrace the parts of her she's often overlooked. While the verses feel playful and joyful, capturing the excitement and possibility of reconnecting to inner self, 'Time' also holds the heartbreak of letting yourself down. It's a vulnerable and hopeful reflection on the ups and downs of GLVES learning to love herself. Together, GLVES and I explored key visuals we felt reflected the intention of the song, and from there I crafted an interweaving narrative that continuously shifts and evolves throughout the clip, beginning in reflective contemplation and ending in the joyous celebration of growth and expansion. The music video invites you into a space between memory and imagination, movement and stillness. Filmed in Magandjin on Turrbal and Yuggera Country, set across shifting, liminal spaces, the video features GLVES moving through water, fabric, and soft glowing light, ultimately joined by a sisterhood of dancers. 'Time' is my directorial debut, made possible by GLVES' passion to uplift First Nations women in the creative industries.

Vibrant colour and lighting give this short a bold, attractive surface, matched by inventive costume and set design that mark out a genuinely imaginative team. The camera movements are smooth and stylish, cut together with editing that keeps pace with a catchy song, and the panel found real pleasure in how creatively the whole piece is put together. Strong production values throughout, carried by a director who delivers exactly what her statement promises.
Director's Biography
Rhianna Malezer Director
Rhianna Malezer is a proudly queer Butchulla and Kamilaroi writer, filmmaker and artist. She began her film career in the art department, working across many productions including 'Goldstone', 'Thor: Ragnarok' and 'Mortal Engines'. In 2019, Rhianna was a writer on season 4 of ABC's 'Black Comedy' - an experience that empowered her to contribute to authentic representations of First Nations stories on-screen.
Rhianna's screenwriting highlights include being mentored by Leah Purcell on development of her drama series 'Suburban Beats', winning the Australian Writer's Guild's Monte Miller Award with short film script 'The Stockman', and writing for NITV's children's series 'Eddie's Liil' Homies'. In 2024, Rhianna was the Queensland recipient of the SBS Emerging Writer's Incubator, while her online series 'Mangrove Mansion' was shortlisted for SBS's Digital Originals program.
Recently Rhianna began her journey as a director, participating in BLACKapple and Common Ground's She Directs program and receiving a Grounded Story Grant to produce video art piece 'wului: pink smoke'. Rhianna recently collaborated with First Nations musician GLVES to direct a music video for the lead single on their debut EP.
Rhianna believes in the power of story as a tool for truth-telling, survival and healing. Through her work, she hopes to honour those who have come before, while empowering the communities she belongs to by celebrating stories of Blak joy.
