From the Judges
From the Judges
A generations-old palm sugar craft in the mangrove forests of Borneo anchors this documentary, its hyper-specific subject opening onto wider questions of tradition and culture. The panel admired direction that felt assured and original, tracing an intimate bond between people and land with vibrant cinematography and a structure that opens with a clear thesis and returns gracefully to its subjects.
