Synopsis

ERIC & ROBYN AND THE MYTHICAL BEASTS is a joyful, sexy and ballsy love story about two genuine characters of the Art world.

Fearless Robyn stands 4’2” tall. After 40 years of marriage to her tall, eccentric husband Eric, she remains passionately in love and refreshingly wicked.

Stimulated and intrigued by the eccentricities of mankind, the artists have chased success throughout their lives but have yet to hit the big time. Now in her 60s, Robyn has struggled with lifelong disability and longs for the day she can give up her disability pension and truly succeed as an artist.

After yet another rejection, Robyn hits on the idea to go for the big one. The lifechanging Archibald Prize.

On the nomination

You might only come across a pair like this once in a lifetime. Ballsy. Funny. Fighting. Taking on the world, one beast at a time. We had to tell their story.

What makes this one special

From the Judges

From the Judges

Costume and direction carry a portrait of two artists whose personalities and partnership fill the screen, built with real warmth and creative flair. The panel enjoyed the shot variety, the music choices, and the consistent gallery motif that mounts documentary snapshots on a wall and draws the eye in. It is a heartfelt, thorough showcase of the work and the relationship behind it, told fluently from several perspectives.
