Biography

Dustin Kahia is a filmmaker and storyteller whose work is rooted in a fascination with the human condition, purpose, and the ways people respond to loss, fear, hope, and uncertainty.

His interest in storytelling became deeply personal at the age of 14, when he lost his father to cancer. His father had encouraged his interest in the arts and taught him to believe that ambitious dreams were worth pursuing. Losing him during adolescence had a lasting impact on Dustin and helped shape both his perspective on life and the kinds of stories he would eventually want to tell.

Dustin began his filmmaking career with short films. His film "Valediction" received the Human Condition Audience Choice Award at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, with its cinematography and performances also drawing praise.

As he continued developing as a writer and director, his screenplay "Project Guile," later retitled "Tumble," received recognition at film festivals and screenplay competitions. He later directed "Call of the Void," a psychological noir thriller inspired by the visual language of 1940s cinema. Shot over the course of four days and presented in black and white, the film explored obsession, anxiety, and the darker aspects of human psychology, with its style drawing comparisons to filmmakers such as Alfred Hitchcock and Fritz Lang.

Dustin has continued developing larger projects, including the science fiction thriller "Crosspoint" and the historical drama "The Golden City."

At the center of his work is a simple belief that stories can help people see themselves and the world around them differently. For Dustin, filmmaking is not only about entertainment. It is a way of exploring difficult questions, examining the human experience, and creating stories that remain with an audience long after the screen goes dark.
