Biography
Nick Kozakis, director and editor at Visible Studios, is an award-winning director with 4 ARIA nominations and 1 ARIA win, as well as an ADG nomination, known for helming projects with some of Australia’s most talented creatives. Nick has most recently completed production on his next feature film, “Kick On,” an action-horror currently in post-production. Nick directed his feature film, “Godless: The Eastfield Exorcism,” which was acquired for North American distribution by XYZ Films, with Coven as the global sales agent for the rest of the world. Godless has played at many prestigious festivals, including but not limited to MIFF and Sitges where it won the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for best film. It had its world premiere at Overlook Film Festival in March 2023 and is now a Tubi Original. Godless has also been nominated for 3 x AACTA awards. Nick’s portfolio includes many notable music videos (such as ‘Dance Monkey’ for “Tones And I” which has over 2 billion YouTube views). With a knack for building tension and suspense, Nick has quickly become one of the most exciting and promising emerging talents in the film industry.

A clever ethical setup unravels through messy, recognisably human reactions, building real tension before opening out into dark comedy that keeps its charm all the way through. The performances hold it grounded, and the pacing is brisk enough that nothing is wasted. Colour grade, cinematography and editing all pull in the same direction, giving a short runtime genuine impact.

The editing snaps together a darkly comic, blood-slicked spectacle that plays beautifully against the sweet, wide-eyed presence of its lead, and the whole cast commits to the mayhem with real relish. Lavish craft runs through every frame, from the props and set pieces to the costumes and effects, all of it cut to sit hand in glove with the song. A gleefully bold, creative piece of music-video making.

The camerawork drew genuine admiration, and the sustained use of red running through the frame gives this short a charged, unified look. There is real craft in the way the editing moves between the tap dancing routines and reality, and in a sound design layered with small, precise touches inside those routines. The panel found the black comedy tone held steady throughout, carried by writing that lets the plot come together with confidence.
