Synopsis

When Detective Natalie Schultz begins investigating the disappearance of 9-month old Olivia Bradbury, she soon discovers the parents are hiding more than they let on.

Director's Statement

Being a first-time director, Gone presented itself as a huge challenge. With a large cast & crew, the project appeared almost insurmountable at first. However, under this exterior, there was an emotional heart to the film that resonated with me. Detailing the struggles of motherhood, and the anguish of a child being taken away, all whilst being interrogated by the police, Gone tasked me to express this flow of emotion within a non-linear timeline. This of which, was a joy to unpack. Given the complexity of the writing, I intended to utilise a stable camera style in order to facilitate a clear delivery of information to the audience. This was important as without it, I would risk the viewer feeling lost amongst chaos. With this stable camera however, the audience can rest comfortably, knowing they can sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster ride as it appears in front of them.

Director's Biography

William Jackson, filmmaker portrait provided to AFIN. William Jackson Director

William Jackson, director of Gone, is a Perth-based filmmaker with a strong interest in fiction-narrative film. In 2017, William began a Bachelor’s in Screen Arts at Curtin University of Technology. Emerging from a photography background, William began working on films as a Cinematographer. Developing his skills in this field, William freelanced as a videographer during his tenure at Curtin University. Landing work with the clothing brand Coercion Collective, William filmed and edited videos to promote their seasonal products of 2020. Whilst in production for Gone, William helped develop a location story for Noongar Dandjoo commemorating the late football legend, Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer. In April of 2020, William wrote and directed a short film titled Where Do You Want to Go for the Perth 24-hour Film Competition taking home 1st place. William is keen to continue directing larger projects and grow further into the creative film industry.
