Director's Statement

Director's Statement Typing is my first directed film and my graduation film. The story of this project is inspired by my 5 years of oversea study and my roommate and the protagonist, Neal, who suffers from tristimania . Most of my Chinese friends have been suffering from the pressure of studying, financial support and expectation from their families. Meanwhile, some people in their own countries has a bias on the life of oversea students, thinking that all international students always hang out and gets their degree easily. These types of pressure have led to many cases of suicide of oversea students. The other theme of the story is the development of communication technology may block true communication between people and somehow make people more hypocritical. Some people could have double faces behind the screen. Some people would judge other people only by their post online, which may be wrong. As an oversea student and a filmmaker, I think I am responsible to have a voice for Chinese oversea students. I hope this film would raise awareness of the mental health of oversea students and correct the bias on oversea students.
