Synopsis
When Unit 76411 is decommissioned and his ship destroyed, he finds himself on the run in an interplanetary pursuit with no one but himself to help him to safety.
Director's Statement
The idea for Decommissioned came from our love of classic science fiction. We wanted to create a film that has the warm familiarity of a movie you grew up with but done completely with stop motion animation. Our influences range from the the classic 80s sci-fi growing up like Star Wars, Blade Runner, all the 80s/90s Paul Verhoeven movies, to our love of Marvel comics growing up and trying to capture the dynamic nature of the panels & the humour we saw on paper. We took a huge amount of pride trying to capture shots that encompassed these elements. In production we initially started using recycled materials for sets due to budget restraints but quickly realized the character that they brought to the films. We hope the audience will feel a nostalgic element while watching as well as enjoying the animated science fiction world we have created. This is our first film. Prior to this, we've made music videos and posts for social media

From the Judges
From the Judges
A wordless stop-motion sci-fi that plays with real charm, carrying its humour on craft alone. The production design drew genuine admiration for its imaginative layers and fine detail, and the panel responded to how much artistry sits in every corner of the frame, sound as well as image. An original score that sits easily on the ear and a patient rhythm of quiet adventuring round out an impressive achievement from a small team.
