Director's Statement

Remembrance is a science fiction film but also ultimately, at its heart it is a personal and grounded story about loss and regret. It explores the theme of the meaning of personal identity and examines who we believe we are and present ourselves as, versus who we really are. The genesis of this theme comes from the ever changing and ever growing society we find ourselves in, where the individual is becoming more and more isolated as they struggle in vein to make deeper personal connections with those around them. The irony being that as our technology advances, our humanity regresses. The film also touches on broader themes of the corporatization of our world, where everything is becoming monopolized as intra-national corporations do anything to get the edge on their rivals, including stealing from them. What better character to explore these ideas through than a thief who steals ideas and identities, yet has forgotten is own. He has left his life and humanity behind, yet he is not forgotten by those who loved him.
