Synopsis
Rory has a lot on his plate living in a pub. He's a bartender, waiter, cleaner, luggage handler, and junior lumberjack. Rory also has school on Monday, where he faces a challenge harder than any job at home: fitting in with his fellow twelve-year-olds.
From the Judges
From the Judges
The dialogue lands with real Australian specificity, funny and precise, with every character carrying a distinct rhythm. A regional pub becomes a whole ecosystem here, a childhood lived inside an adult world of work, family grief and schoolyard bravado, and the writing gives that world genuine texture. The panel responded to a clear emotional centre, a protagonist whose wants and needs pull against each other, and a thematic handling of what it means to be a man that never turns preachy.
