Director's Statement

As stated at the beginning of the film, this is a true story. Even more so, it is an extremely personal true story. In the last years of his life, our grandfather struggled heavily with Dementia. We watched the decline of our grandfather's mental facilities and ability to reason, and saw the way that his generosity and desire to do right were taken advantage of. We also grappled with ourselves and our own emotions around the love of our family and the frustrations of becoming a caretaker of someone who once did his part in taking care of us. When our grandfather died earlier this year, we decided to make this film as a reflection on something real and recent; something still haunting us a little. We also decided that the reflection would be all the more personal if we filmed it where it happened, where we grew up and were cultivated and inspired; our grandparents house, the house that they occupied for fifty-five years. The house that still felt like it had them in it. So in the end, this film is dedicated to our Grandparents, Paul and Ruth Gary, not just to memorialize the home that they made and shared with us, but also to inspire dialogue about a cloud of myriad emotions that arise when a loved one begins to slip away before us, and about those wolves that see this last feeble leg of life as an opportunity for personal gain.
