From the Judges, on The Immortal Divide (2026)
From the Judges, on The Immortal Divide
Production design and visual effects carry a futuristic world that sits convincingly against ancient architecture, and the opening exteriors set that juxtaposition out with real confidence. Cinematography plays its part too, framing the material with an artistic shift between black and white and colour widescreen that the editing carries into something genuinely moving. A thought-provoking concept, handled with craft.
From the Judges, on THE GREAT ABYSS (2024)
From the Judges, on THE GREAT ABYSS
A speculative short that carries the exploration of AI a step further, with a premise the panel found genuinely original. The visual effects work on a large scale while the cinematography stays close and personal with the characters, and that combination struck them as breathtaking. Believable performances and a real sense of production value carry the emotion of the piece through to the end.
From the Judges, on LOOK FOR ME AT DUSK (2023)
From the Judges, on LOOK FOR ME AT DUSK
A disaster story about a family seeking refuge in the fallout, this short builds a world of genuine epic scale, and the panel found the craft behind it thoroughly cinematic. The pacing sits comfortably with the length and structure of the story, and the design work sells the scope of what is unfolding on screen. It struck them as engaging the whole way through, with the bond at the film's centre landing with real emotion.
From the Judges, on Gold From the Sky (2019)
From the Judges, on Gold From the Sky
A dystopian science-fiction premise unfolds across this series with an ambition the panel responded to warmly, and the visual world-building drew genuine admiration for its use of VFX to realise a futuristic setting. They found the aesthetic well realised and the craft assured, with a tight screenplay and solid work from the cast holding it together. It left them wanting the next episode.
