TENDERFOOT

Synopsis

Two isolated men are thrown together when young fugitive Will is caught on ageing farmer John’s property. Sharing a meal, the two men struggle to connect as Will refuses to open up to the older man. Forcing a confrontation, John eventually gets through to Will and they share a calmer, more domestic moment. As the days wear on, John invites Will further into his home and the two begin to get closer. Neither man is able to drop their gruff masks of masculinity enough to genuinely connect though, and eventually, Will’s fear of becoming weak and domestic prompts him to leave. That night, Will sneaks out of his room to steal food for his travels. John lies asleep in the living room as Will sneaks past. As Will digs around in the storeroom, he stumbles on a plaque and badges commemorating police service. Terrified, he pulls out his gun (imitation prop) and exits. In the living room, John kneels before a box of cash, and a letter addressed to his son. Silently, Will deliberates whether to shoot John or not, while John utters a prayer to his son. Unable to do it, Will backs out of the room, leaving John completely alone once again.
