KANE

Director's Statement

The idea behind “Kane” and its evolution were one in the same. Kane is mix of complexed personalities, all on a collision course. We all wear so many different faces, the persona we have when we are with our work colleges, our friends, our partners, the things we hide and the things we want people to see, we create our own perceptions and our own little world. Sometimes these worlds aren’t what they seem. Now add a healthy dose of paranoia and schizophrenia and stir it all into a big pot of the underbelly of crime. You have Kane. I really want the audience to not just be entertained, but to wonder “WTF”. I wrote Kane in August 2021 with Jake Ryan in mind for the role of Kane. The concept was simple, make a quality film, with quality talent, and with a quality crew. Sounds easy enough, but can it be done with a micro budget and still look at the premier quality level. I sent the script to Jake as a mate to gauge his thoughts and he came back with “let’s do it Brother, I have the perfect guy to play Abe, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor”. I was also talking to Clay Watson and Holly Brisley, about the film, and before you could blink, Nathan Phillips came on, Martin Dingle Wall, Tammin Sursok, we had our cast. It really was a snowball effect, Tim Carr our DP pulled together an amazing crew, but we had one problem…we really didn’t have a producer and still working out the finance side covered. Tim introduced me to Shaun Barry, this was October 2021. He read the script and we all hit it off like a house on fire, Shaun pulled the missing pieces together, and we were shooting early December. The real beauty of Kane was we were all kindred spirits, from the actors, the crew, the EP’s, the producers, we all went on the magical mystery tour of filmmaking together. There is a saying in the industry, “every movie is a miracle”, and Kane was just that.
