Synopsis
A family owned woodwork shop is on the brink of closure. Owner and father, Pierre, is faced with a heavy decision - to continue the family legacy or risk losing all they have achieved.
Director's Statement
'Clockwork' began as an 800 word short story. I took inspiration from woodwork class when I was in early high-school - we spent a few weeks building these small boxes that could fit a clock-face. Over a Christmas holiday period, I decided to develop this short story into a screenplay. Once tweaked and polished, I started to get a scope of what would be involved to film this. With the project being a period piece, the expenses and reality of this began to set in and I put the story aside until I was ready. A couple of weeks later, I met Joshua on a short film set we volunteered for. I mentioned my idea to him during a lunch break which peaked his interest. He was wanting to be a DOP, and I was wanting to Direct. From there the project steamrolled and we produced the film together. 'Clockwork' screenplay was finalised January 2024, and the 2-day shoot successfully commenced in May with Post-production wrapping in November.

A tender story about ageing and the bond between a father and son, moving between past and present. It struck the panel as heartfelt and generous work, with period costuming and a lived-in work shed at its centre that gave the film real texture, and cinematography that lit and framed every shot with purpose. Smooth, controlled camerawork, the colour contrast drawn from practicals in the night scenes, and a score tuned to its era all drew admiration.

Ross Luttrell Director
Ross Luttrell is a 27 year old writer and director based out of the Sunshine Coast, Australia. From an early age, his passion for creating and sharing stories has shaped his creative endeavours. In his early teens he used photography to pair his story-telling to a visual medium. After experiencing many cultures and countries throughout his late teens and 20s, Ross has dedicated his experience, inspiration and ideas to the passion he has for filmmaking. His short film 'Clockwork' will mark his directional and producing debut.
