Synopsis
A surreal visual journey through the decay of greed, "Famished Mammon" explores a world consumed by desire and haunted by its own hunger.
Director's Statement
Famished Mammon reflects the darker side of the Balkans - a reality often hidden behind the sun and the dance and the exoticized image of our region. These elements are carefully placed, both visually and sonically, as part of a larger irony: the seductive surface that conceals violence, oppression, and a constant struggle with power.. In a region where rituals are shaped by survival and trauma, acts done in the name of materialism wear us down until the victims inevitably become the perpetrators. With surreal lyrics, symbolic imagery, and a non-linear structure, we attempted to narrate a story that emerges from the land we grew up in. This is not an ode to the Mediterranean dream. This is a lament for what lies beneath it.

The panel responded to its imaginative shot choices, expressive lighting and costume work, and a slick sense of production design, all wrapped in a vibrant, confident colour grade. They found it a well shot, well produced short that plays as genuinely entertaining from start to finish.

Vicky Kapetanopoulou Director
Vicky, vocalist and lyricist of the progressive soundtrack band Part of The Theory, makes her directorial debut with the band’s first music video, Famished Mammon. With a background in theatre studies and a strong instinct for visual storytelling, she brings a symbolic, ritualistic aesthetic to the screen. Deeply involved in every aspect of the production, Vicky approaches filmmaking as an extension of musical and theatrical expression. Famished Mammon reflects her fascination with themes of greed, decay, and spiritual hunger.
