Synopsis
Two best mates, Andrew and Nicolas, are obsessed with birds. We explore their long lasting friendship whilst out bird watching.
On the nomination
As a first time filmmaker, having my film 'Birders' recognised by AFIN is incredibly exciting. Thank you to the festival team for providing such a valuable platform for filmmakers. Festivals like AFIN ensure films like mine can reach, entertain and impact more people, and for that I am grateful.
Director's Statement
Birders is a heartwarming story on the importance of friendship and the beauty of time spent out in nature. It was filmed all across Victoria, Australia, capturing not just the beauty of the bond between these two bird watchers, but also in the landscapes they adventure to. From the peaceful bushland of Melbourne's east to the irony of the idyllic 'poo ponds' of The Western Treatment Plant, Andrew and Nicolas show nature at its most joyful. Making this film was a delight for those involved and we certainly believe you will see that come through whilst watching.
