Synopsis
James enters the small town of Greenfield to win his former girlfriend Kelly back, but tensions soon explode when her brother confides him with a volatile secret leading to a dark spiral of events.
Director's Statement
Greenfield is an exploration of masculinity, in particular the fact that a lot of men don't really know what it means to be a man, which can often lead to heavy consequences. Greenfield can also be seen as a feminist film with two strong female characters. Justine reclaims her power in a toxic relationship and Kelley is a force for positive change in the other character's lives driving them to examine their toxic behaviours and traumas and challenging traditional male stereotypes. Greenfield also touches on LGBTQ themes with two characters at a heads with each other. One Jason, a bully with childhood trauma, afraid to admit his true feelings and confused looking for love manifesting in explosive anger and violence; and the other Michael, becoming a target for expressing his feelings when his secret is spread around town eventuating in a horrendous assault. We really wanted to explore how these themes played out in a small country town in Australia. Greenfield is a place where men don't talk about feelings, they get into fights, drink alcohol, hang out at the local burnout spot and flog their fast cars and motorbikes. At it's heart Greenfield really has a message of championing and encouraging people to take their masks down and be vulnerable and who they are without fear of being ridiculed or shamed. It's an example of what can go wrong when there isn't a safe space available to share and be real with each other. There is a lot of division in the world right now, and we would like to spread the message that if we trust in our humanity and open up it will be humbly and respectfully received. Focusing on what unites us, rather than what divides us, as people.

Camera movement that pulls the audience right into the frame gives this gritty Australian arthouse portrait a real, raw honesty, its windswept West Australian coast beautifully shot throughout. The direction guides moving lead performances with evident care, and the panel found so much to like in its unflinching, atmospheric look at love, belonging and small-town life.

Could this be an Omeleto feature? I feel like there is a gap in the marketplace for well crafted engaging micro budget low budget features that have been unable to get a distribution deal due to lack of market funding. Danish director Julius Telmer has a look at Australia through a European lens. Greenfield started life as a web series (Unreleased) which made some waves on the web festival circuit and gained us a few awards including best drama, best actor, best supporting actor, best actress and best editing. It was also nominated for best drama at The Webbys (The Oscars of the internet) We now have finally completed and finished a feature film cut of the project and we think it's much stronger than the series. We have spent extra money on Post Production, especially foley and mixing to enhance the movie. We did do a small grassroots feature festival run with an experimental cut in 2019 to a great response. However the current version with extra post work needed to bring it up to scratch for distribution in its latest feature film version and fully completed has not yet screened publicly. (Apart from festivals) The themes explored are universal and globally relevent. This film has been tailored for omeleto and we are happy to make any suggested changes if we can ie we could cut the abuse scene so we don't get hit with an age verification? We know you guys usually do shorts, but we have had a festival run and we are struggling to get it out there on a traditional market run as we just don't have the budget to compete with multi million dollar movies. We just want it out there for people to see. The money that was spent, well let's just call it an investment in our future I guess is the best way to look at it. It's a solid piece of film making and quite punchy for a feature. Again happy to work with you guys on changes etc (if they are possible) Let us know what you think!
