TKG: The Kids Of Grove

Director's Statement

A tale of two communities from separate sides of society with only one thing in common, the will to survive. ‘TKG’ is a feature length thriller set over one night in a secluded office building. Settling in for a long night overtime is the staff of the Wright Property Firm. They are in the opening stages of the Grove Street Project after finally shutting down the housing commission that was in the way of starting development. The termination of the housing draws a line down the middle of not just the public but the staff itself in the firm. We begin to explore differing opinions on the project to help us show early that there are always two sides to every story. This brings us to the group known as the TKG. As far as the public is concerned they have been inactive for some time. But all they needed was someone to huff and puff in an attempt to blow their house down. The group is made of young members of the community who were abandoned young who grew up without guidance until they met their leader Jonti. Jonti views the world in a different way, he believes society shouldn’t judge the things they haven’t experienced. How do the upper classes think they have the right to dictate terms for those they see below them. We will showcase the struggles of his community to explore his leadership to them whilst also showcasing his strength as our main antagonist. The vibe we are trying to create is grim and tense, these characters are hurt, flawed and all have a blurred vision on right and wrong. What is justice in our day and age? Justice comes down to our own personal opinions and that is what this film explores. This film has a lot of violence (most of it is implied without showing) but I want it to be more psychological rather than gruesome. The words will sting more than the hits. We are touching on a subject matter that we feel is relevant to the modern-day world. This maybe a twisted way to draw attention to it but we are trying to make an entertaining film at the same time that the cinema going public will enjoy and come to see. This is what I’d like to call a substance driven ‘genre’ film. Which means we will have a built in target audience (18-30’s) but with enough substance and subject matter to draw in a lot more than just typical horror/thriller fans. We have a great mix of drama, horror and suspense with most of all very relatable characters that will have audiences invested in the action that is going on.
