Synopsis
JESSICA MCDEES, a beautiful 24-year old girl, is less than enthused to be working in a bikini at the local coffee shop, Coffee Beach. Along with her roommate COURTNEY-LYNN, self-reliant Goth DARLA, and French foreign-exchange beauty BRITNEY BOUCHAND, she serves coffee to crotchety, abusive anti-socialite ROBERT SEETHIS.
Miserable with her life, yet feeling powerless to change it, she seeks the advice of her sage friend TAYLOR, who attributes her misery to her horrible taste in men and suggests she break the pattern of her life by courting men who bore her rather than excite her.
In a show of groundbreakingly bad judgment, she turns to Robert to fulfill Taylor’s edict, a desperate attempt to solve all her relationship woes by dating the worst man in the world.

The writing drew real admiration here, sharp and modern in its handling of the push and pull between its two central characters. Animated interludes give the storytelling a playful lift, and the humour lands with an easy confidence that carried the panel through a feature-length runtime without a sag. Multifaceted and compelling, it struck them as the kind of film they would happily buy a cinema ticket for.

Neil Thompson Director
Raised in what can best be described as a pothole in the highway outside Portland, Oregon, Neil’s obsession with film began when he witnessed the climax of Raiders of the Lost Ark at age three and realized the power of cinematic face-melting. A graduate of the USC School of Cinema-Television, his short film Thorns went on to earn international recognition at the Strasbourg Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best LGBT Character. He currently rocks a flip-phone in the Los Angeles area. The Thin Line marks his feature-film debut.
