Synopsis
BRIEF A child's encounter with classic masterpieces triggers a confronting epiphany
LONG DESCRIPTION: When we look at great art, do we realise it is looking back? With eyes that see more clearly than we do?
In a mysterious gallery imbued with strange life, shadows of the past and unresolved futures collide when a child's vision peels away the layers of what we call 'reality'...join a journey through the masterpieces you thought you knew as their hidden souls are finally given a voice.
As layers of contemporary 'reality' are stripped away, art's unseen soul brings a challenge we can neither ignore nor escape. Or can we? Will their message be heard in time?
The door is open. The masters' works await us. Who will enter ?
Director's Statement
THE CREATION PROCESS: The classical paintings were digitally repainted on individual layers using overpainting techniques and the originals as close references. Procreate and Photoshop were used on various elements of the paintings, including overpainting, that were then composited into 3d space. Adobe After Effects was used for compositing work and more digital animation. 2D elements animated and positioned within a 3D environment. Adobe Animate was used for some minor frame-by-frame elements. Logic Pro X was used to create the soundtrack. Director's Biography
Radheya Jegatheva Director
Radheya Jegatheva is an Oscar-qualified and AACTA-nominated filmmaker from Perth, Western Australia. Born in Malaysia at the turn of the century, Radheya’s films have garnered 29 Academy Award-Qualifying Festival selections. He has spoken to thousands of school students over the years with an aim to encourage young people about being involved in the arts, and his works have been used as an educational tool in schools and universities around the world. His animated short film 'Bird Drone' was shortlisted for the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards. His short film ‘The Quiet’ was Oscar-qualified, landing on the longlist for the Academy Award for Best Short Animation in 2021. His live-action short ‘Pacing the Pool’ won Best Short Documentary at the BFI Future Film Festival 2023, and was shortlisted by the World Health Organisation for the Special Prize for Rehabilitation. Radheya is passionate about film, and the value of using film and animation in educational and social development contexts. He has also animated and contributed to various large-scale multimedia installations and public projects, and performed animation and VFX work on Lynette Wallworth's ‘How to Live...’ which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
